Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed is a non-native plant in Ireland that is a very invasive and dangerous plant. Japanese knotweed can be identified by its green heart shaped leaves and clusters of white flowers. It can grow up to 2-3 metres tall while also spreading up to 7 metres wide underground.

It should never be cut or dug as it can grow from small fragments of plant or root material which would cause a rapid spread of this invasive weed. If left untreated, it can cause structural damage to adjacent buildings. Japanese Knotweed can spread and grow through hard surfaces by finding a weak spot on the surface and therefore undermining the structural integrity of surfaces.

The best approach for the treatment of Japanese knotweed is to get it professionally treated by a competent contractor as soon as you identify the problem. Weedfree’s rates for herbicide treatments are reasonably priced when appropriate assessments are completed, and the site can be vacated for the treatment process.
